Knowing you as I have for many years (but not all of my life), it's such fun to hear your comments.I didn't know you worked in a library although I did know you love "The Pokey little Puppy!" But now I see it's no accident that my nickname for you over the years has been "Trivia Man." You are always learning, always reading, and always ready to jump in with a song! I'm sure that this heavily influcend my love of reading (and being read to). Along with "The Pokey Little Puppy" and "Fun With Dick & Jane". In my tween and teen years my parents bought the encyclopeda set "The Book of Knowledge," which I'm sure we couldn't afford. I spent countless hours looking up and reading everything in those volumes. I still quote from it on occasion (Red in the Morning Sailor take warning...). This love of reading led to my first job as a messanger clerk in the public library. Even in high school I hung around the book room and helped "crack the bindings" of new books as they arrived. The aroma of the ink and paper was heavenly! Over the years I have searched for my childhood book, to no avail, but still remember some of the poems and illustrations. I hope you will follow the project and let parents in your storytimes know they will be able to download the songs and sing them with their children after singing them with you! Many parents who knew these songs 'back in the day' have forgotten they knew them, and many parents haven't heard them at all! I'm so excited for your project because these are some of my same goals in storytime here! It's important!!<br />DisFanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04061996784251318838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555213503672336566.post-29170049771891735662012-06-30T21:20:10.288-07:002012-06-30T21:20:10.288-07:00Hi Terina,

Growing up in the 50's, we were all about musicals. In fact I would walk down the middle of the street singing and dancing my way up the block to visit friends. That's such a sweet memory of your dad! Camp fire was one of my favorite times because I loved to just sing as loud as I could with all the other people who were acting just as goofy and crazy as me. When I had children I started by teaching them all the nursery rhymes I knew, the camp songs I sang, and then we attended library baby storytimes which are full of music, and took music classes together. I love that my children sing in the car, on the beach, as we walk down the road, and even at the zoo. I've found that singing makes my children and me happy! The lyrics really make a different too since my kids can come up with their own songs or apply one to almost any situation.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13011357643777146874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555213503672336566.post-92079090183607764692012-06-30T19:26:12.391-07:002012-06-30T19:26:12.391-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13011357643777146874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555213503672336566.post-47456251224480993272012-06-23T17:12:35.124-07:002012-06-23T17:12:35.124-07:00there were always (here's where i date myself....there were always (here's where i date myself...) records playing in our house when i was growing up, either classical music or musicals. so there was always dancing and singing going on. oh, how i longed to be 16 going on 17! and my dad would dance with me and sing the song "maria" but put in my name instead. driving into oklahoma to visit my grandparents we sang "oklahoma," of course. i loved my mr. roger's records, i can still remember looking into the mirror on the front of the "you are special" cover. one of my favorite singing songs was "one potato, two potato" but i don't remember what record that came from... ah, the smell and feel of records. makes me wonder what our kids will remember.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555213503672336566.post-10072276516175258542012-06-23T16:56:32.844-07:002012-06-23T16:56:32.844-07:00we sang constantly when milo & delia were babi...we sang constantly when milo & delia were babies. we made up songs, sang along with cds and just sang anything we could remember. there's a particular cd we memorized all the songs from and still will pop out those songs on occasion. maybe you've heard of it?
